What a weekend!

10:25 AM

I was a little nervous about how the weather was going to go this weekend when we left our house on Friday night only to be accosted by fog. Luckily it was only foggy at night and during the day we had perfect and toasty (in the 70s!) weather.

Brandon was excited to wear his new cuff links and I was thrilled to be able to pull out my wedding shoes and get good use out of the earrings and clutch I got from Rent the Runway. {side note: clip ons hurt!}

Originally we had only planned on only going to the last Inaugural Ball event, which was the actual ball, but we were lucky enough to be given tickets to the Governor's Reception and the Gala Presentation beforehand. The GR was nice, but the real gem of the evening was the Gala Presentation. It was seriously awesome.

I was excited to see everyone announced, and then there was the music. It was fantastic. Mark Kano (our photographer's husband!), Parmalee, and The Avett Brothers performed. There was also a presentation about people talking about North Carolina. We love our state and it's fun to see that so many others feel the same way.

[In 4 years] if you consider going to the Inaugural Ball, I highly recommend going to the Gala Presentation as well. After the presentation, the actual ball kicked off with lots of yummy food from the guest chefs. Our favorites were the catfish and grits from 18 Seaboard and the scallop and grits from Second Empire.

There's a reason why the Junior League of Raleigh has been hosting the Governor's Inaugural Ball for the past 80 years. They did it right, y'all.

Saturday was an equally exciting day in our house. We watched the State vs. dook game with some friends and were excited (and relieved) when the clock hit 0.00 and we had beaten a number 1 ranked team for this first time since 2004! It was a great feeling and it took us all a while to let it sink in. As an NC State fan, we know how things can go, as does Coach Gottfried, and we'll be sitting on pins and needles tomorrow night as we take on Maryland. But for now...victory is sweet.

Saturday night was the last event for the governor's inauguration. This wasn't an event connected to the Junior League and was more of a private fundraiser (although there were a ton of people there that night too). We had a great time Saturday night as well and got to hang out with a lot of friends that we hadn't been able to on Friday night.

We definitely enjoyed our Sunday Funday (after Brandon went into the office for a few hours that morning). We had brunch with some friends at Nofo and went on a walk through Five Points before tuning into the Golden Globes. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did an awesome job and I hope they'll host it again!

We didn't get a chance to paint our table and chairs because we were worried about the drying time with all the rain we've been getting this week. This weekend's looking good for that though!

How was y'alls weekend? I'd love to hear about it!
