Acts of Kindness

8:00 AM

One of the things on my 101 in 1001 is to do 25 random acts of kindness. You always read about people doing this kind of thing, but this past Friday, mom and I witnessed one first hand.

We were having Chipotle for dinner and there was a family in line in front of us (mom, dad, their teenage daughter and her boyfriend). We're always "people watching" and we noticed the mom and dad started talking to the police officer that was in line in front of them. Next thing we know, they were buying his dinner. The dad shook his hand and the mom gave him a huge hug and said, "Thank you for protecting us." I almost started crying in the middle of the ordering line. It was so special.

Then we noticed that when they sat down, the dad was saying the most wonderful prayer before they ate. This is what it's all about. The small acts of kindness aren't just to make you or someone else feel good, it's about being examples of God in this world. To show that we know of his love through our kindness to strangers.

I know I won't ever meet (or even talk to) these people, but they made a huge impact on mom and I that day.

It all came full circle for me when Lisa, one of our amazing ministers at church talked about 'kairos' in her sermon on Sunday. Kairos is "God's time." It's when God breaks into our daily activities to remind us of his presence.

Here is a great list of ROAK if you want some ideas of your own!
